ROSEHIP OIL – ROSA CANINA
“Rosehip oil has gained attention for its regenerative and healing benefits. Derived from the seeds of a specific type of wild rose plant, Rosa canina or dog rose, this natural oil is packed with bioactive compounds that work well with most other ingredients.”
The most abundant and studied of rosehip pseudo-fruits comes from the Rosa canina species, which is native to Europe and Asia.
Rosehip oil is one of the few topical skin care oils commonly used for acne or blemished skin. The high concentration of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids can effectively help to heal skin conditions such as dermatitis, burns, acne, and eczema (1).
Carotenoids are a class of natural pigments found in various fruits and herbs, including Rosa canina. They possess strong antioxidative properties that help protect our cells against damage caused by free radicals. When applied topically, carotenoids may provide protection against UV-induced damage while promoting collagen production – an essential component for maintaining youthful skin (2).
In addition to carotenoids, rosehip oil also contains a variety of triterpenes – bioactive compounds known for their anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. Triterpenes may help soothe irritated skin while promoting faster recovery from minor cuts or abrasions. They appear to induce collagen deposition (4).
Research demonstrated that rosehip attenuates inflammatory responses, which could be useful for people suffering from various inflammatory skin conditions (3).
